About

World Design showcases an exquisite handmade range that reflects the quirky signature of African design. We work with talented African designers who have created products of outstanding quality that have global appeal yet maintain a quintessentially African flavour.

We focus on sourcing our products from job creation projects with fair trade principles. We believe increasing trade with Africa and supporting African women is an effective and powerful path towards a more balanced global community, a better World.

Gone Rural is an example of the enormous social and economic impact sustainable employment projects can have. In rural Swaziland 772 women work, in their homes, creating exquisite tableware, floor mats and baskets using traditional hand skills and locally available natural materials. Each woman supports on average eight dependents.

With it’s roots in Africa, World Design was created as a retail concept by Annig Barrett in 1998, in Gaborone, Botswana. Recognising the opportunity to bring the exciting world of sophisticated design from local enterprises to the discerning market place of Europe, in early 2006 an outlet was opened in Dublin, Ireland.
